Carpets are a staple in any home. They are so versatile and can suit any interior style. New advancements in textile technology means that they are now easier to maintain than ever before!

Cream bedroom, with white double bed, black furniture and cream carpet.

Finding the perfect carpet for your home

The first thing to think about when choosing a carpet for your home is what room it is going in. Carpets for bedrooms can have a soft footfall as there isn’t much foot traffic. A softer footfall is also nice underfoot. However, in an area like a hallway or living room, a more sturdy carpet with less footfall is better. This is because there is more foot traffic and the carpet must be able to withstand this.

At Tech Flooring, we are proud to provide carpets for bedrooms from Lano. Lano’s carpets are all about combining quality, durability and style. Their carpets also include a ground breaking nano technology called SmartStrand. SmartStrand is built into their carpets, making them completely stain resistant. The carpets are bio-based, made with a rapidly renewable energy source. They are one of the only carpets with permanent built-in stain and soil protection that won’t wear or wash off.

Think about the colour you want for your carpet. Lighter coloured carpets help disguise dirt, so are good for busy areas. Darker coloured carpets will need to be vacuumed a little more but look classic in bedrooms.

Looking for a new carpet but not sure where to start? Here at Tech Flooring, we want to make finding an incredible floor as easy as possible. So, we’ve collected together three great Lano carpets for bedrooms that could be perfect in your home.

Puppy looking cute on a carpet

It can be difficult to find the perfect floor that blends style and practicality in the exact way you want. It is especially hard for busy households to find a durable floor that also looks great. Households with pets, young children or lots of foot traffic can often struggle to find the perfect floor. To help you out, here are some of our favourite floors for busy households.

Carpet

This may come as a surprise, but carpet is actually a great choice for busy homes. It is comfortable, soft and comes in a range of different thicknesses and patterns. The first thing to think about when choosing carpet is whether to go for wool or nylon.

Wool carpets are luxurious and soft. They are also super durable and can withstand a lot of foot traffic. This makes them a great choice for hallways, bedrooms and living rooms. Wool carpets are also good for adding insulation to your property. Wool carpets are not the most budget-friendly- however they are so beautifully soft that it is well worth the price.

Nylon carpets are slightly less luxurious but are more budget friendly. They are durable and come in a wide range of colours and patterns.

Carpets are a great choice for busy homes. Spills and splashes can be quickly wiped away. They suit any style of interior. Carpets are also super comfy for little feet and claws!

Vinyl

Vinyl flooring is a great choice for busy households. It is super durable as well as being water and stain resistant. A major advantage to choosing vinyl flooring is its durability. This means it can withstand a high amount of foot traffic. This makes it a good choice for busy hallways or living rooms. Because of its water-resistant properties, vinyl is a perfect option for bathrooms and kitchens.

Any spills or splashes can be easily wiped away without having to worry about long-term stains. Vinyl floors are low maintenance. This means you won’t have to be mopping and hoovering all the time. Because of this, vinyl is great for busy households.

What colour floor?

This is an important thing to consider when choosing a floor for your bustling home. Lighter coloured floors are lower maintenance. This is because dust and dirt does not show up on the surface as much as darker floors. However, darker floors can make a room feel warm and modern. Why not try a patterned floor? Patterned floors can be a great way to combine style and practicality as they are funky and low maintenance.

Working with small spaces

By | Carpet | No Comments

When living in a smaller home or property, finding a balance of stylish design and practicality can be difficult. You can often find yourself looking at larger houses with lots of space for interior design and think ‘if only’. However, here at Tech Flooring, we love smaller spaces. We want to help you see smaller spaces not as a hindrance, but as an opportunity to get creative with interior design.

It may come as a surprise but the flooring you choose can have a big impact on how big or small a space can feel. Something as simple as a different floor colour can instantly make a space feel brighter, lighter and bigger. So, if you are looking to make your smaller property feel bigger, it’s best to start with the floor.

Flooring

If you want to make your room feel bigger and brighter, try lighter-toned floors. Lighter coloured imitation wood floors, like laminate or LVT, are a great choice. These imitation wood floors have a timeless look and can go with any home. A lighter coloured floor is also fairly low maintenance. This is because it allows dust and dirt to be disguised. Because of this, you won’t have to be going over with a hoover all the time.

Lighter neutral tones are also a good idea. Greys and pale colours help make the space feel airy and light. You could go for an industrial style and pick an imitation concrete floor in LVT, vinyl or laminate.

Another option is to choose a dark floor. Though this may seem counterintuitive, this can actually help make a room seem bigger. A dark, striking colour adds depth to a room and makes it feel bigger. Why not try a dark walnut wood LVT or black Victorian vinyl tile style?

The main thing to avoid is medium shades. These can make a room feel cramped and small. Stick with striking, contrasting colours to make the most of your space.

Furniture

It’s really important when working with a smaller space to utilize your furniture properly. Rather than having furniture and storage separately, try and combine the two. There are lots of stylish furniture options that also include hidden storage (e.g. window seats).

You could also pick up some wicker baskets and use them for a stylish storage option. These can then be tucked away under beds or tables when you need to make more space. If everything can be cleared and tucked away somewhere, you can give the appearance of space.

Other tips

Another tip is to use a few larger decorative items rather than lots of small ones. Using lots of small décor pieces can give a feeling of clutter- thereby making your space seem smaller.

Rugs are also a good idea. Not only do they help maintain your floors, but they also create the illusion of space.

How to look after your conservatory carpet

By | Carpet | No Comments

How do I keep my carpet looking good?

So, you’ve had your brand new, shiny carpet installed into your conservatory. The next question you’re probably thinking is- how do I keep it looking this good? Well, there are actually a few things you can do to help keep your conservatory carpet looking great.

Here at Tech Flooring, we want to help you get the most out of your conservatory carpet. Conservatories can be difficult spaces to maintain. This is because of its fluctuating temperature and proximity to the outdoors. However, there are a few things you can do to keep your conservatory carpet looking fresh for years.

a cream carpet in a conservatory with a red sofa in the background

Keep on top of cleaning

Often, conservatories are out of the way or at the back of the house. This means they can frequently be forgotten about when it comes to cleaning. However, in order for your carpet to stay fresh it should be vacuumed at least once a week. Make sure your hoover is on the right setting in order to clean your conservatory carpet efficiently. A good tip is to change your hoover bag and filter regularly as this helps it perform better.

Stop dirt from entering

This is a really simple way to keep your carpets looking great. Conservatories are often the entrance to gardens, and this means there is a high likelihood of dirt being tracked in. Stop the dirt from coming in by having a ‘shoes off’ policy. This also stops dirt from getting tracked through the rest of the house. Having a door mat is also a really simple way to cut down on dirt. This way even little paws will have some dirt cleaned off when they head inside.

Deep clean twice a year

This may seem like a bit of a pain but deep cleaning your carpet twice a year is essential for its maintenance. You can hire out a machine and do it yourself or get professionals to come in and take care of everything. This will help clean out the deeper dirt within your conservatory carpet. Deep cleaning also helps deal with deeper stains or smells. In this way, your carpet can stay looking brand new!

 Get rid of stains immediately

Obviously, spills and splashes can happen from time to time and it can be tempting to leave them. However, the best way to keep your carpet looking great is to clean them up as soon as they happen. If a spill is allowed to sit, it can get deeper into the carpet and create a nasty stain.

Blot don’t scrub as you remove the stain or spill to prevent it from spreading further. Mud or chocolate can be removed by scraping it with a knife and then vacuuming.

Conservatories can be the most relaxing place in the house to hang out in and your floor should reflect that! Carpets are a great choice for conservatories as they combine practicality and style. Get in touch to find out how we can install a gorgeous carpet in your conservatory today.

How to clean your carpet

Tips on making your carpet look wonderful

Carpets make up so much of the atmosphere of your home, so it’s important to keep them looking and smelling fresh. Cleaning your carpet in an efficient way means it will last longer and feel newer. Here at Tech Flooring, we want to help you keep your carpet looking great so we’ve compiled these tips on how to clean your carpet.

Sort the room out first

Before you start cleaning it’s important to make sure the room is ready and the carpet is clear. Often if you’re in a hurry it’s easy to hoover around furniture instead of fully under it but this can cause an uneven finish on your carpet and mean parts of it stay dirty. To ensure your carpet is properly cleaned, move the furniture off the carpet. Another tip is to open the windows and ventilate the room first, giving surface level dust the chance to leave.

Keeping your carpet clean is important

Blot don’t scrub!

This is an important tip for effectively removing carpet stains. Blotting instead of scrubbing helps remove the stain without pushing it further into the carpet. Place a kitchen cloth in the centre of the stain and soak it up. Then, carefully dry/blot with another cloth working from the outside in. Rinse thoroughly with hot water and blot again. Remember- scrubbing can ruin your carpet fibres. Blotting a stain away helps keep your carpet fresh.

Deep clean twice a year

Deep cleaning your carpets twice a year is essential to their upkeep and helps maintain their freshness. Hire a carpet cleaner for the weekend and do it yourself or book a professional to do it. Interested in finding excellent carpet fitters? Get in touch today to find out more.

Hoover effectively

To make sure your hoover is working at its best, replace the hoover bag and filter regularly. This means your hoover is ready to tackle your carpet and won’t be too full to take in dust and dirt. This may seem obvious but checking your hoover is on the right setting for carpet is really important. If your hoover is on a hardwood floor setting it can actually end up damaging your carpet by being too forceful. Vacuuming at least once a week is a must to keep your carpet looking fresh.

Using a lint roller is a great way to pick up crumbs and surface level dirt before going in with your hoover.

Watch out for shoes

It is surprising how much damage shoes can cause to carpets. Leaving shoes on when walking across carpeted areas can track mud, dirt and leaves into the carpet. The shoes themselves can press and wear down carpets as well. Taking your shoes off at the door means your carpets can be lower maintenance and last for longer.

If you follow these tips, your carpet will stay looking brand new for years to come! Looking to install a new carpet? Contact us today to order a sample to try out in your home or to get a free quote.

Carpet

Carpet is popular for obvious reasons- it’s comfy, simple and affordable. The first choice to make with carpet is whether to go for a wool or nylon carpet. Wool carpets are slightly more expensive due to their luxury feel and durability. Nylon carpets, however, come in a much wider range of styles and colours and are therefore better if you want something colourful and funky. Wool is more resilient and is good as a form of insulation- designed to trap heat.

It’s important to think about foot traffic when considering a carpet. A busier area, like the living room or hallway, should have a carpet with less footfall so it is more durable. The bedroom can have a softer carpet as it has less people coming and going.

Colour should also be considered when installing a carpet. Picking a darker coloured or patterned carpet means that dirt and dust will be disguised, making it a low maintenance option as you don’t have to hoover everyday.

It is recommended that you deep clean your carpets twice a year. You can rent a carpet cleaner and do it yourself. This means your carpet can stay fresh and clean!

Vinyl

Vinyl is a classic option for flooring. It is super water and stain-resistant as well as being very durable, making it the perfect choice for a kitchen or bathroom. The durability of vinyl flooring is a major benefit as it can withstand the bustle of daily life. If you have pets it’s a good option as you don’t have to worry about paw scratches, water bowl spills or mud- it can be easily wiped clean. If you opt for a thicker vinyl floor it can also help muffle noise. Vinyl floors are comfy underfoot and come in a huge range of styles so it can suit any interior design plans you may have. You can also look into Luxury Vinyl Tiling for something slightly more realistic.

How long does a carpet last?

By | Carpet | No Comments

Carpet life

When choosing a flooring for your home, carpets are the obvious option that provide a blend of style and comfort. But how long does a carpet last for? Well, we are here from Tech Flooring to answer your questions and give you all the information you need about carpeting your home.

Picture looking down onto a staircase - a recent installation from Tech Floors London5-15 years?

How long a carpet lasts for can be anywhere between 5 to 15 years and this is affected by the quality as well as maintenance. Wool carpets, though more expensive than Nylon ones, are very durable and good as a form of insulation as well as sound proofing. Wool carpets are fairly easy to maintain and are good for high foot traffic areas such as hallways, living rooms and staircases.

Nylon

However, the carpet material that lasts the longest is nylon. Nylon is not as luxurious as wool as it is made of synthetic fibres but, because of its synthetic nature, it comes in a wide range of colours and styles. It can withstand mess, pet paws, regular hoovering and small spills so it is easy to maintain. A high-quality nylon carpet can last between 12-15 years. Want to learn more about our range of nylon carpets? Contact us today for a quote.

Softer?

It’s important to consider what area of your house you want the installation in. For example, the bedroom can have softer pile as it is more comfortable and has less foot traffic going through it. Whereas, somewhere like a hallway or staircase needs a more durable material and pile to cope with foot traffic.

Cleaning

Cleaning your carpets semi-regularly helps prolong their life. Hoovering once a week eliminates surface level loose dirt but more ingrained dirt will need a deeper clean. You can book a carpet cleaning company or hire out a carpet cleaner and do it yourself. For heavy use this should be done every 6 months but a less used carpet can go for a year without needing to be deep cleaned. If your carpet is a darker colour, it may not be as easy to spot dirt as it is on a white carpet but do not be fooled- all carpets need regular cleaning to help prolong their life and keep them looking fresh.

Wool

It is far better to spend a little more on a durable wool or nylon carpet that will last 15 years than to go for a cheap one that will need replacing after 2 years. Here at Tech Flooring, we provide expert help and installation of beautiful wool and nylon carpets. Still unsure at how long does a carpet last for? Keeping your carpets fresh and clean is a must for any home

Here are some of the best tips and tricks for keeping your carpet looking fresh.

A black fluffy dog on a gorgeous greay shagpile carpet, sitting next to a coffee table.

Top tips to keep your new carpet looking fresh

Add in rugs

Adding rugs on top of carpets can seem counter-intuitive at first, but this is a really great way to add dimension and style to your room whilst protecting your carpets. Experiment with different colours and textures to fit your desired look. Having a rug protects your carpet from being worn down and can be easily taken out and cleaned or replaced if needed.

Deep clean twice a year

This might seem like a lot of effort, but deep cleaning your carpets twice a year is essential to their upkeep and helps maintain their freshness. Hire a carpet cleaner for the weekend and do it yourself or book a professional to come in and take care of everything.

Watch out for shoes

This may seem obvious but it is surprising how much damage shoes can cause to carpets.  Especuially when you are looking for carpets. Leaving shoes on when walking across carpeted areas can track mud, dirt and leaves into the carpet. This means it will need to be vacuumed more often which, in turn, means it will wear down faster. The shoes themselves can press and wear down carpets as well. Taking your shoes off at the door means your carpets can be lower maintenance and last for longer. If you’re looking at flooring for a high traffic foot area, laminate or vinyl can be a better option that won’t wear down.

Vacuum regularly

This is a sure-fire way to keep your carpets looking fresh. Vacuuming once a week helps maintain your carpets. Changing the filter and bags inside your vacuum helps it perform better for your carpet. A great tip is to vacuum slower on carpets than you would on hardwood floors. Spending slightly more time means all the dirt gets removed and your carpet stays cleaner for longer.

Get rid of stains immediately

It can be tempting to leave a stain if you’re super busy but dealing with a stain as soon as it happens is the best way to get rid of it. The longer a stain sits, the harder it is to remove. Blot don’t scrub as you remove the stain or spill to prevent it from spreading further. Mud can be scraped off with a knife and then vacuumed away.
